Summer of 2019 is going to be hot and we don’t mean the weather. 1441 U Active Street Wear is set to launch in June 2019. From fashionable bright coloured tanks to racerback tees down to the socks, bringing back active fashion inspired by the ’90s. Cycling cotton hats, Spike Lee style, best believe this upcoming brand is bringing the heat.
The Story (Shortened)
Founder Mona Disa, struggled with a fluctuation of weight and couldn’t keep up with diet fads and exercise regimens, deciding to take frustration and stress out on the punching bag; and fell in love. Boxing was an outlet to not only get into shape but release the negative energy which was a daily consumption, however, the biggest issue was the uncomfortable fit of workout gear, constantly hiking up leggings, sports bras that could barely keep “the girls” in place, and tanks/tees that fit awkward in certain areas.
The distance between loved ones also played a part in why boxing became an escape. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY family was everything, spending most holidays, birthdays, major events both joyous and devastating at the house that stands on Union St. 1441 is a significant set of numbers that means a great deal to family, extended family, and friends, filled with memories, laughter, cries, heartaches, but most of all love.
Residing in our Nation’s Capital, Disa wanted to create something that could represent the presence of family during workout sessions along with creating a fit that wouldn’t interrupt the 60 minutes of sweat, focus, intensity, and constant movement.
Partnering up with cousins Candace Dowdy, Sheree Evans-Spivey and Ocha Solomon, 1441 U will be the epitome of “Black Girls Rock.” It is more than just a brand. It’s a lifestyle that begins with family and ends with family, embodying support, strength, positivity, and motivation.
“From MY family to YOURS. It’s time to join the UNION.”
